AHS students recognize others
are in need and take action
When members of the Alvarado High School Chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) learned of the plight of many residents in Bastrop County affected by the September wild fires, they knew it was their place to lend a helping hand by collecting bottled water.
"So we decided that this water drive had to happen," said Margaret Alexander, advisor. "We wanted to make sure that we were helping a community in need."

The organization reached out to the Alvarado community and the school district to donate bottled water which would be delivered to the residents in the fire-stricken county. In turn, the group collected 165 cases of water, which was welcomed relief for aid organizations.

"The volunteers at Red Cross could not stress how low they were on water and how grateful they were that we did this water drive," Alexander said.
The water was delivered to the Fort Worth office of the Red Cross, which then made sure it made its way to the victims in Bastrop.
"The Bastrop fire disaster is the largest one we’ve had in Texas, and is now a part of history," Alexander said. "This tragedy is something the people of Bastrop, Texas will never forget, so thank you for helping us, help their community."
 Alexander and the members of the FCCLA are thankful for the community's assistance.
